Gauntlegrym Diorama - Auguast 2014 Craftwar

Gauntlegrym Diorama

Silver halls and mithral doors
Stone walls to seal the cavern
grander sights than e'ere before
In smithy, mine, and tavern

Toil hard in endless night
In toast, oh, lift your flagon!
Ye'll need the drink to keep you right
At the forge that bakes the dragon.

Come Delzoun, come one and all
Rush to grab yer kin
And tell 'em that their home awaits
In grandest Gauntlgrym!

Below is the Artwork i based my Craftwar Diorama on

 THE BUILD

The Materials
1- Thick Cardboard
2- Thin Card stock
3- Hot Gue
4- White Glue
5- Toilet Paper
6- Bamboo Skewers
7- Thin Wire
8- Small Foam Bean Bag Balls
9- Aluminum Foil
10- Sand
11- Acrylic Paints

The Base board was constructed out of 4 layers of Thick Cardboard, i wanted a heavy layer of Toilet paper for texture so i inserted Bamboo Skewers into the Corrugation of the cardboard and made sure i rotated the way they ran to eliminate any Bowing from the white glue. The board was edged with thin Card stock to hide the Corrugation.

The Doors and Arch were constructed from 6 layers of Thick Card board then the Design was built up with many layers of Card Stock for varying depths. The Edges were covered in Card Stock. The Lower Levels were covered in White glue with sand Sprinkled.

The Mushrooms Are made from Small foam Bean Bag Balls Cut in Half and Glued to pieces of Thin Wire. The Stalagmites were formed from Aluminum Foil the Covered in Toilet Paper.

The Walls were made with Cardboard covered in Aluminum Foil then Toilet Paper,i Used Dirty Painting Water with my White Glue to stick the Toilet Paper down, this was done by accident but looked great, i splashed some other Earthy Colors on watered down and bang didn't have to paint them.

Craftwar - Templar's Rest

The Templar's Rest Crypt Layout was designed to be in the Shape of a sword with the Entrance at the Pommel and the Lord Buried at the Tip. Other Templar's Would be Buried along the Sword blade with Two other Special Crypts of Heroes housed at the Hilts Guard.

The Tiles were made from Cardboard, Sand was placed on the Wall parts for Texture and the Stone floor pieces are cut from cardstock.

The Mummy's were molded from Sculpty and then Wrapped in paper towel strips that were brushed down with a water/white glue mix, then a light flesh ink wash was applied. The Stones that the Mummy's rest on are balsa wood covered in sand then a piece of paper towel brushed down with a water /white glue mix. The Shields are old GW from my bits box. The Arch ways were made from soaking balsa wood strips 1cm wide in water for about five hours then molded around some wooden Disks i had. they had to set over night. The Stairs are Cardboard then textured with sand and Balsa wood Steps added. The Statue is a really Really old GW knight using multiple bases to build up, the Shield on the base was carved from Balsa.

Game Store $5 score

So i went to my Local Games Store ,(not really local but the only one really), and they had this big old box of Metal bits an pieces, so i said to my self "Self why not take a look" so i did, i located a few object i could use straight away and said how much for these, now this place has a habit of over charging on old crap so i when he said $5 i thought he meant each piece, i was soon was delighted and surprised  when he said all i had selected was $5 i yelled Score, a little man almost fainted by the way, and ran out like a little kid back to the car and showed my wife who was waiting, she said that was cool, how much did that big bag of stuff cost i said "that's not the bag your Looking for" and waved my hand. FYI big bag cost $150 but that is not my point what i got below was only $5 , there is some humanity left in the world, ok rant over must paint Stuffs
